Serving Our World

SERVE Outreach

Serving our community in acts of love and compassion is one of our top priorities at Evangel. Do you love community outreach and mission projects? We offer a variety of outreach teams that will provide the perfect place for you to get involved in serving the community.

Each team has different time commitments and requirements. Once you contact the church about your area of interest, you will receive more information and begin the process to SERVING. We can't wait to SERVE God, others, and our world - with you!

Food Pantry

Evangel’s EDGES Food Pantry is a ministry that reaches out to our local community for those families that are in need. If you live in Wilbraham, Ludlow, Palmer, Monson, Sixteen Acres, Hampden or East Longmeadow, you may qualify for food assistance. It is open each Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3pm in Evangel’s church office (south side of the church building), and in the evening from 6 to 7pm in Evangel’s basement (east side of the church building).

There are team members each week that give time both Wednesday afternoon and night to help coordinate and run the Food Pantry. Typically, team members SERVE once a month on a rotational basis.

KIDS HOPE USA

KIDS HOPE USA programs create one-on-one mentoring relationships between adult church members, willing to give a little time and a lot of love, and at-risk elementary schoolchildren in their community who desperately need loving, caring adults in their lives.

Evangel partners with Brunton School in Springfield, MA to provide mentors to at-risk children. As a mentor, you spend one hour per week with one child. You work with that same child through the school year. The relationship involves reading, talking, playing and listening to the child at school. By helping that child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow and succeed. A mentor must be able to do four things: Say a child's name. Be Faithful. Be there only for one child. Believe in a child.

To become a KIDS HOPE USA mentor, you must complete the training course. We offer it once each year in the summer or fall.

MISSIONS

Evangel has given in excess of $750,000 to missionaries and missions projects in the Unites States and around the world. Evangel also provides opportunities on a yearly basis for teens and adults to experience serving the world first hand. We have sponsored trips to places like Africa, Ireland, Alaska, Guatemala, and rural Jamaica. In addition, we have served here in the United States in Massachusetts, Washington, Pennsylvania, etc. We not only say it, we do it. We are here to serve our world!

You can SERVE Evangel Missions by participating in mission's trips or through financial giving to Missions.

Most missions' trips are open to adults and teens. They are planned at various times throughout the year. Team members raise their own funds to participate in the trips.

If you are interested in giving to Missions, please click here to give online or you can give in a Sunday offering by designating "missions" in the memo of your check or envelope.

Alpha Course

Alpha USA is a network of people, churches and organizations who are seeking to fulfill the Great Commission to "go and make disciples of all nations." Matthew 28:18-20 Alpha partners primarily with churches to accomplish this.

Evangel participates each year in Alpha USA, and offers the Alpha course. The Alpha course covers the basics of Christianity. It answers questions like: Who is Jesus? and Why did he die? The Alpha course usually lasts 10 weeks, with a day or weekend getaway in the middle. Each week, guests gather for about two hours. They share an informal meal, sing a few songs, listen to a talk on how Christianity approaches the question at hand, and then gather into small groups for discussion.

Evangel hosts Alpha usually twice each year in the fall and in the Winter/Spring. Alpha is typically held on Sunday evenings at Evangel. Because the course is small group discussion based, we utilize group facilitators. There may be opportunities to be a group facilitator.
